It is all about kids

Every child deserves the hope of a future

With your help we will continue to send over 100 children to school each year.  Your donations buy them tuition, a back pack, school supplies and the dreams of a future.  The future of Haiti is in the children of these children.  It will take generations to pull this country out the depths of the poverty it has been thrust into.

Paying a few dollars a year to make a big difference in someone's life.  Yes you heard this before.  But every cent that you donate to our charity goes into a Haitian hand.  We have no overhead costs.  We do not pay ourselves wages, costs, fuel, airfare, vessel costs - nothing.  It all goes to Haiti.

I started supporting Remy Alexanders education in 2004. Every year he would search me out and show me his report card and try to communicate with me. His Creole and my French somehow let us discuss things.

In 2008 Remy was moving along the public school system. He was doing well in school. His was being raised by a mother who was struggling with health issues. Wagner, our Haitian director of the Canadian Water Project was his cousin.

In 2012 my little Remy is towering over my wife Judy in Haiti. Schooling is very important to him.

If you would like to sponsor a child for school - look under contact/links to Bonnie Melichercik who can set that up.

I visit the schools many times as I am distributing all the school supplies people send with me. The children are always dressed their best as the parents and community respect the opportunity of school. In the morning at the National School the younger children attend and then at lunch the older children come. Many walk miles to and from school and the trails can be very muddy as no roads.

I have seen old desks from Canada with the ink well bored into the corner. The same desks I started off using in my public school days. At these schools chalk is locked up and pencils are scarce. Anything we bring is greatly appreciated. Copy books, paper, dictionaries etc are gold to every teacher and student.

The washrooms are outhouses. Water is scarce. The temperature inside the classrooms has me sweating but I am the overweight white guy from another island - Canada. Most of their lessons are sung and their voices are amazing.

Every trip to Haiti we bring soccer balls and if possible used uniforms. These young men are very proud of the the first uniform they have ever had. GUELPH ROYALS. The soccer shoes we brought they asked us if it is OK to cut the spikes off. Every student at school needs shoes and school was more important. Next year we brought hundreds of pairs of shoes, boots and of course more soccer shoes.
